Emerald Envy

I've currently been lusting after all things emerald. In an attempt to take a serious inventory of my closet to try and fill the gaps (or more, to try and stop buying more of what I already have), I've noticed a serious lack of green. And if there's any time to buy deep, emerald green, it's fall. It's disappearing from the world outside, so all the better to rock it yourself.

One Darby Suede Loafers, J.Crew
Two Emerald Jewel Nail Polish, Forever 21

The Best Kind of Sale

Is there anything better than a sale on top of another sale? In my world, NO. That's why I love when J.Crew has their additional 30% off promotion on final sale items. Here's what I'm lusting after right now:

English-Inspired Interiors

If you follow me on Twitter, I'm sure you're aware that I'm a huge fan of the period drama Downton Abbey. My love for English country houses isn't restricted to the fictional—I'm currently working on my senior seminar for my history major, where I'm studying the fall of the British aristocracy.

During my semester abroad, I had the chance to visit many a country manor, such as Blenheim Palace and Waddesdon Manor. While living in such an environment isn't very realistic anymore, I can't help but love the elegance and extravagance of these houses. And that's why I love Lee Stanton's Laguna Beach, Calif. home, featured on Architectural Digest's website. Gorgeous artwork hangs on the walls, giving this Southern California home the feel of an ancestral home. I love the deep wood, formal furniture, and endless details.

The classic English manor house is brought to the modern era—what do you think?

Glass Envy

I have a problem.

I want a pair of glasses. Yet, I have absolutely no reason for them. My mother's side of the family is 100% glasses-wearers. She's had them since she was 7, and putting on her glasses, I get a dizzy headache so fast it will make your head spin (literally). The number one trait my mother was worried about passing onto her children skipped both me and my brother—we both inherited our father's 20/20 vision. But that doesn't change the fact that I'm dying for glasses (talk about a first world problem). But how adorably intellectually-chic are they?

I am completely obsessed with the eyeglasses from Warby Parker. The Duckworth, Percey, Downing and Mallory frames are my favorite. I'm especially loving tortiseshell frames. However, with little need for prescription eyeglasses, I think I might just invest in a pair of $14 readers from Urban Outfitters when I want to feel a little more intellectual. Do you wear glasses? Am I missing out?

Navy Blue

When I'm shopping, I'm consistently drawn to all items in one of my favorite hues: navy blue! I don't know if it is the neutral tone or the nautical feel (not to mention the fact that it goes with everything), but I've been stocking up on navy basics this summer. Here's a few pieces I'm lusting after.

ONE // j.crew silk crepe stripe top
TWO // ll bean leather handle boat tote
THREE // j.crew double stripe swimsuit
EIGHT // navy petite anchor wrap

Weekend in Brooklyn

For the time I've spent in New York City, I haven't done too much venturing to the other boroughs besides Manhattan. A couple weekends ago, I spent both Saturday and Sunday in Brooklyn. Saturday, I went to the beautiful Prospect Park for Tropfest, a short film and music festival. It was very relaxed -- people were laying out on blankets and listening to music. I love it! Prospect Park was gorgeous. If you're looking for an expansive NYC park to explore, I highly suggest this one! There was an algae-filled pond with a waterfall, and shady walking paths.

Sunday, I took my long-awaited trip to Coney Island. I've wanted to go for a while but never made it out last summer. It was exactly what you'd expect: a little trashy, a little touristy, a little cheesy. But overall, a great place to spend an afternoon, and an easy way to get to the beach via Subway. The lines were long at Nathan's, and I don't eat hot dogs, so we grabbed a bite at Ruby's Bar and Grill next door on the Boardwalk. The food was so-so, but it was a fun beach bar atmosphere.

Cafe Mocha

When you're an unpaid intern, there's a beautiful thing that exists called Summer Fridays. Which means on Friday, your weekend starts a day early. My friend Kate and I headed to a coffee shop in the East Village, Cafe Mocha, that I instantly fell in love with. Friendly staff, great menu, amazing atmosphere. It was a beautiful day and the doors were wide open. We drank tea, ate breakfast and talked. Later I read and she wrote. Perfect afternoon.

Life According to Instagram

It's been a whirlwind of almost three weeks since I arrived back in NYC. Here's a couple snaps of the past few weeks.
