In Downton's earlier seasons, the women wore corsets underneath their gowns, and said gowns almost always had sleeves. This season, the women of Downton are embracing the styles of the 1920's: which means sleeveless gowns, sequins and lots and lots of drop waists. The 1920's are known for women shedding their ultra-feminine frocks for a more boyish look, with looser (and shorter!) cuts.
