Diana Brought Back to Life

If you've been reading this blog or know me personally, then you know that I'm completely obsessed with the British Royal Family. (Confession: I have a Royal Wedding keychain on my wallet and daily Google alerts on Kate Middleton sent to my email. Doesn't get much worst than that.) As obsessed as I am with the newest addition to the family, Duchess Kate, I still have special place in my heart for the earlier generation's iconic Royal female, Princess Diana (and no, despite how much I may wish it, she's not my namesake). As such, I've been waiting quite some time for a Princess Diana biopic. And finally, finally, it looks like my wishes have been granted.

Watts said it was "an honor to be able to play this iconic role." And great Oscar bait, am I right?

Naomi Watts has been slated to play the late Princess of Wales in a biopic focusing on the last few years of her cut-short life, told from the perspective of her longtime bodyguard. Originally titled "Caught in Flight", the film has recently been retitled simple "Diana" (a much more fitting title, if I do say so myself). A few photos of from the 9-week shoot have been released, and they're making the anticipation that much worse. The resemblance between the two is uncanny. I think it's safe to say that this portrayal of an icon will go over better than Lindsay Lohan's Elizabeth Taylor biopic (I can't even think about it), and if she pulls it off, may be Watts's chance at Oscar gold. It worked for Helen Mirren, right?
