Pinterest of the Week

The classic pin boards on pinterest, (the ones that all self respecting pinners possess), are great. Believe me, I have almost 1000 pins on my "fashion & style" pin board, so I am clearly no stranger to boards circulating around typical topics such as style, food, travel, and home design. However, when a pinner goes beyond that - gets specific with their boards, that's something extra. Even better is when pinners have both - and that is exactly what this week's pinner of the week, Bloomspot, does. Bloomspot is a site like Gilt Groupe or Groupon, that offers deals on things or experiences you can purchase through your selected city. Their pinterest reflects this regional focus, with pin boards dedicated to many of the nation's most luxurious cities, as well as classic boards on delectable meals, gorgeous style, and international destinations. Take a look at my favorites below.

The Best and Worst Cities in America

Travel + Leisure conducts an annual survey which ranks the nation's various cities into groups, ranging from categories such as the best winters (my hometown of Chicago obviously ranks near the bottom on that score), to the best pizza (in this one, Chicago comes out on top), to even the best cities for hipsters (Seattle) or cities with the most attractive residents (San Juan, Puerto Rico). The lists are displayed in two fashions: one is the results according to the visitors, and the other is the results according to residents.

One of my favorite lists to see the rankings for is the country's most stylish cities. As can be expected, New York City (my future home in FIVE DAYS) came out on top in both lists. Other top ranked cities include San Juan, Puerto Rico, Los Angeles, Miami, Charleston, and San Francisco. At the bottom includes Anchorage and Salt Lake City. Am I the only one seeing the well, of course it's easier to dress well when the weather is warm 365 days a year. However, NYC faces some chilly winters as well, but still manages to keep themselves fashion-forward. If you're living in Alaska, your primary concern is most likely comfort and warmth above all else.

Long Weekends

Although since I'm not in school and have yet to start my summer internship, the prospect of a long weekend is less exciting for me than for others, (really, it's been like one long weekend since I got home from Syracuse). However, Memorial Day is sort of like the real kick off holiday of summer, and that is most definitely a thing to celebrate. Whether your plans include parades, BBQ's, or just dinner with friends, a chic ensemble is a must. Cropped white jeans with classic summer wedges and a bright colored tee, detailed with a statement necklace is the perfect patriotic head-turning outfit for your weekend! Here are my picks:

Great Gatsby Trailer

When I watched this video last night, it had 301 views. This morning, it has 491K+ views. The power of the internet, right? I am so excited for this film adaptation of the Great Gatsby! It looks like a classic Baz Luhrmann film - lots of glitz, glamour, and over-the-top design. Take a look at the trailer.

Lagerfeld, Weinstein, and YOU

If you're a fan of movies and fashion, then the names 'Harvey Weinstein' and 'Karl Lagerfeld' are not unfamiliar to you. In fact, they're probably like the names of mythical beings - you've heard of them and know so much about them, without ever having met them before. Recently, the two superpowers in their respective fields have teamed up to create a short film (Weinstein as producer, Lagerfeld as director). However, still to be determined is the star of said film - who will be chosen at the Cinema Against AIDS gala, this Thursday, through an auction. The highest bidder wins the chance to star in the film. Whether you're an actor or not, working alongside these two iconic moguls is an opportunity worth paying for. (And a lot will be paid for it, if my guesses are correct). However, those attending the gala include many of the established Hollywood elite, so perhaps the star-to-be won't be unfamiliar to us, after all.

Carey on eBay: An update

After 35 bids were placed on her Prada Met Gala dress, Carey Mulligan walked away from eBay with a winning bid of $2,950. All proceeds will be donated to the charity Oxfam. Mulligan's dress was interesting, but I wouldn't shell out nearly $3,000 for it. Michelle William's Oscar dress this year, perhaps...

Pinterest of the Week

This week's pinterest of the week is another one of those I don't know her, and I'm not entirely sure how I found her, pinners. She dubs herself on pinterest simply as "Amelie :)", and her username is ame1590. Her description goes no further to explain herself, simply stating "Enjoy Life. Live Preppy." But really, what else do you need? Some of my favorite of her pin boards include: "Inspiration: Kate Middleton", a whole board dedicated to the duchess herself (how could I not fall in love?); "Nautical", because who doesn't love boats and seaside-inspired attire? "Tea Time", A board whose sole purpose is exhibiting beautiful teacups, and different boards dedicated to the four seasons. Each of her boards is unique, specific, with lots of pins to offer. A great follow for anyone who loves preppy pins!

Fresh Finds: Colordot

If you've been following this blog, or my posts on College Fashionista, for sometime, then you know how much I love J. Crew. The store is like a preppy haven, filled with bright colors, clean cuts, and to-die-for pieces. So then it's no surprise that I've also fallen in love with J. Crew's slightly more hipster cousin, Madewell. Perusing their website this morning, my eye was caught by the options they have for colored and patterned bottoms, going along with the popular backwards trend of a simple top and an exciting color or bright pattern on bottom. One of my favorites is the Colordot shorts, for $78.00. The print is rather relaxed, but I love the dark piping and casual to formal look of the shorts. They're perfect for dinner out with friends, or even with a cute tank for a concert like the upcoming Lollapalooza. If only I had $80 to shell out for a pair of shorts...

Carey on eBay

Lovers of celebrity fashion, like myself, all know how much we long to have our own red carpet worthy couture gowns. Even better, the exact styles that we coo over from our respective couches. Oscar nominee and soon to be Great Gatsby star (can't come soon enough!) Carey Mulligan recently made this dream possible (for those of us with deep enough pockets) by putting her Met Gala dress up for sale on eBay. For those of you who didn't tune into the live stream, Mulligan wore a halter dress by Prada, the top half adorned with gold metal flakes, the bottom half with silver (on a closer look, they almost resemble fish scales). A chic choice, but not exactly one that the everyday girl would wear out to dinner.

The proceeds from the auction will go to charity Oxfam, and the bidding started at a cool $500. The auction closes on May 19th, and as of this post, there have been 23 bids, the highest being $2,125. Want to win it for yourself? Place your bid here.

Denim on Denim on Denim

One of my favorite trends, hands down, is denim, or chambray, shirts. Due to my overabundance of tanks that I don't want to fall by the wayside during the winter months, the solution lies in finding the right garments to wear over them. Despite my love of cardigans, it's always fun to mix it up every once in a while, and chambray shirts are the perfect substitute. Although I'm not sure if I'm a huge fan of denim on denim - a bit too 'joutfity' for my taste, but some people make it work. Here are some of my favorite chambray items:

Pinterest of the Week

I've found that the best way to find inspiring new Pinterests to follow is to go to the ones you already follow, repin from, and love, and look to see who THEY pin from. This, of course, can lead to a chain reaction of sorts, resulting in me finding all these great Pinterests when I actually have no idea who the pinners are. And that is how I found this week's Pinterest of the week - Josephine Holmboe. Not a magazine's page, or a writer, or stylist - in fact, she has no bio on her Pinterest. One thing we do know, though, is that her page is fabulous.

With almost 60 boards and over 21,000 pins, you know that the potential repins are endless. The best thing about her Pinterest is the specifity. It's not just a board for "Food", but a board for cooking, and one for baking. Not just for travel, but for individual travel destinations themselves. Not just "Crafts", but "Knitted", "Stitched", and "Shelved". Some of my favorite of her boards include the multiple boards she has dedicated to the cultures, people and landscapes of different nations; the multiple boards dedicated to different colors and patterns (including a whole board dedicated to Chevron). However, my favorite has to be "Vintage Style Inspiration" - you know how I'm a sucker for anything historical! Check out some of my favorite pins below.

Met Gala Fashion

In case you didn't catch last night's live stream of the Met Gala, there's lots to catch up on! One of my favorite things about the Met Gala is because it is slightly 'lower profile' than award shows like the Oscars, people seem to be less afraid to really take a chance and try something a little out there. In addition, since the Gala really attracts the fashion savvy, rather than just simply celebrities, you know that they're experts at getting dressed for these sorts of occasions. Here are a few of my favorite (or most eye-catching!) red carpet looks from last night:

Anna Wintour in Prada (The best cliche brought to life)

Wintour's daughter, Bee Shaffer (recognize her from the September Issue?) in Erdem

Coco Rocha in Vintage Givenchy (this outfit previously belonged to Elizabeth Taylor!)

Camilla Belle in Ralph Lauren (one of my favorite looks of the night)

Michelle Dockery (better known as Lady Mary) in Ralph Lauren

Claire Danes (with husband Hugh Dancy) in J. Mendel

Lily Collins in Valentino

Scarlett Johansson in Dolce & Gabbana

Emma Roberts in Escada

Beyonce in Givenchy

Diane Kruger in Prada

Fresh Finds: New Lengths

While I've yet to truly embrace maxi skirts (I feel like they swallow you), I've been interested in all the varying skirt lengths that are popping up everywhere lately. One of my favorites is the assymmetrical 'mullet skirt', introduced to me by a friend who was craving one (she found hers at PacSun). I love this one I found on for $59.90.  It's perfect for summer, and I love the soft pink color. Although, as I've been unpacking since arriving home from school, I've realized just how much clothing I truly have - I really need to stop shopping (like that will ever happen).

Watch the Met Gala!

Every year, the Metropolitan Museum puts on its Costume Institute Gala in New York, earning the event the reputation for being the East Coast version of the Oscars (one of my favorite gowns - ever, was worn by Gisele Bunchen at the Gala in 2008). This year, us lowly souls at home will have the chance to witness the gala's red carpet with the first ever live stream. The stream will be broadcast on,, and of course, The hosts will be VOGUE journalist William Norwich and model Elettra Wiedemann, and the stream will not only feature shots of the to-die-for clothes, but also the hosts interviewing the various attendees (I'm keeping my eyes out for the Anna Wintour interview!). You can even try to get your own questions answered by tweeting them with the hashtag #metquestions. Check out later for a video of the now still unknown musical guest (last year it was Florence + the Machine).

Fresh Finds: Pastel Denim

Happy May! I'm officially done with sophomore year (I've been blessed with no finals, I'm not sure what I did to deserve this kindness), and am spending my last few days on campus packing my life away, and of course, catching up on all the sleep I missed during the year. With all this downtime comes a lot of internet browsing, and therefore, online shopping.

Colored denim, as well all know, is one of the hottest trends on shelves right now. And while most people are fawning over bright colors, like bold reds or hot pinks, I'm drawn a bit more to the softer colors. American Eagle (one of my favorite denim suppliers) has many gorgeous colored pairs of their trademark jeggings, but my absolute favorites are the pale yellow pair. I'm a sucker for yellow, ever since I bought a gorgeous yellow dress in NYC that has yet to be dethroned as my favorite item in my closet. The pastel hue is perfect for summer, and I love pairing it with a dark chambray - makes for a great contrast.
