That is the question. At least is West Hollywood. Last Monday, on November 21st, West Hollywood passed a ban on fur sales. By September 2013, all fur must be gone from their stores. While you might be thinking that residents of West Hollywood (current temperature 67 degrees), don't have much of a need for fur, remember that many of the town's residents include celebrities who bop back and forth between coasts, fueling the need for warmer apparel (and they have the money to throw around on fur despite not needing it). Store owners and retailers are obviously none too pleased about the ban, calling it 'ridiculous' and 'super annoying'.
Personally, I've never owned any item made out of fur, although I do love how soft it feels. I'm not a vegetarian, but I still consider myself to be an animal lover, so I don't really know if I'd feel comfortable donning a fur coat. But an all out ban on fur sales seems like a bit overkill - don't people have the right to wear what they want (within reason)? But, animal cruelty is a problem and this could just be a step in the right direction to fix it. Regardless, the retailers still have two years to get the fur out of their store, and that's more than enough time to repel the ban. It's not like this is New Mexico, where the lack of fur doesn't fit the climate or won't be missed by the city's shoppers - this is Hollywood. I have a feeling people are going to want their fur.
Even Samantha isn't safe from the anti-fur ban
